What I keep

If you write to me

The contact form keeps what you send — your message, and a name and email address if you give them — so I can read it and reply. It is stored with Cloudflare, who host the site, is never shared or sold, and is deleted within a year of the conversation ending. Ask and I will delete it sooner.

The mailing list

Only if you tick the box. I keep your email address, the words you agreed to and when, so I can show your consent if asked. Every email will have a way to leave the list; until the first one goes out, write to me through the contact form and I will take you off. When you leave, I keep only a record that you asked to, so you are never added again by mistake.

What stays with you

Your list of places is kept in the page's address, not on my server. It is only shared if you share the link.

The passport you pick, the place you start your journeys from, and the journeys you save to your trip are kept in your browser's own storage, not on my server. Clearing this site's data removes them, and they do not follow you to another browser or device.

If you make an account, it holds your email address, the name you give, how you sign in (an emailed link, or Google, which tells me your name and email address), and your trips, so they are on any device you sign in on. Your account page lets you download all of it, and delete it all. Sign-in emails are sent through Resend. Two cookies keep you signed in for up to 30 days of not visiting; they are needed for the account to work and are not used for anything else.

If you share a trip, the people you invite see it, your name and the names of everyone else on it; you, as the owner, also see their email addresses. A view-only link shows the trip to anyone who has it, without booking references, until you turn it off.

To work out a journey, your browser sends my server the starting place's name and position. It is used for that answer and kept only as a cached copy of the answer, for a day, rounded to about a kilometre.
