Cádiz

Cádiz is the chief city of Cádiz Province in Andalusia, the southernmost part of Spain. It has a charming old centre, and thanks to its position on a sandy island even its newer districts are pleasant, with little industry. Wikivoyage

Through the year

  1. Carnaval

    February – March

Carnaval in Cádiz is over ten days in the run-up to Lent, so dates vary with Easter. The emphasis is on street performances, with singing, dancing and satire, all in elaborate costumes.

  2. Semana Santa

    March – April

Semana Santa is Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday, with icons swaying above big church parades. A few penitentes wear medieval peaked hoods, but not the spooky squadrons you see in Seville
